Latest Updates from Our Project:

Final Banknotes and more
over 2 years ago – Thu, Sep 23, 2021 at 10:22:31 AM

Dear backers,

We wanted to share a quick little update with you. We finally received the new samples of the deluxe banknotes. It took the manufacturer a while to find the right metallic foil paper, but we are very happy with the result. When you receive your copy of Carnegie Deluxe, you will find two very shiny postcodes punchboards in there. But the nice thing is that the printing gives it this matte metallic effect that we were trying to go for.  It's quite subtle if you have indirect light, but it gives it a really nice shine in the light. Here are some pictures:

The shiny new punchboards.
You can see the final effect of the metallic foil here.
And this is what the banknotes look like once unpunched. It has this little metallic glow to it which looks very nice.

Here's a  little video which will show it in even more detail.

Board and ... action!

We also had a request to show the full board, so here are some pictures of the front and back, and.... the game in action, all set up:

That is it for now! We will post more updates as the production moves along. Have a great start to the week!

Quined Games.

Preproduction finally wrapped up, production can start.
over 2 years ago – Tue, Sep 07, 2021 at 10:39:54 PM

Dear backers,

a few weeks have again passed since our last update, so here's an update to let you know where we stand. We have been busy the past few weeks with tweaking the insert and some other game components, making sure everything was really 100% ready for production. This is often a tedious process, because we have to ask our manufacturer to make small tweaks, and then always have to wait for them to change the moulds or prints, send us samples because we always want to gauge the quality with our own eyes and hands. One of the most difficult things has been tweaking the insert. The player trays didn't quite fill up the entire height of the box, and we had to make sure to adjust them so that they would neatly fill the box. Another detail that we had noticed, was that the cards – once sleeved – did fit in the slots, but would sometimes stick out vertically. It wasn't a major issue, but again, we'd rather have everything perfect than not.

We also waited patiently for them to finish the metal Timeline marker in and the First-player marker. Which now look absolutely gorgeous. You can take the pictures down below, we think you are going to be very pleased. They both have a matte finish, which turned out way better than the shinier versions we had seen before. Especially the Timeline markers look impressive, it's hard to see it's made out of metal at first until you hold that hefty piece in your hands.

Another item that has caused us some headaches were the Punchboards for the Banknotes, which we wanted with a metallic foil finish. Our manufacturer had to find a decent solution. The first one he sent us, and that's the one you can see in the pictures below, had more of a Crystal-like and iridescent pattern that we did like, but it didn't seem to fit the game very well. So we had to look for alternatives, and after a few weeks of looking for examples and sending them samples, we finally found the right solution.

And finally, the translation of all the components took longer than expected. Some of our partners were a bit overwhelmed this summer, and it took them a while to fully translate all of the rules. But now, we are happy to announce we have all of the different language versions. This means that preproduction has now come to an end, and we will be able to move onto the mass production of the product.

Unboxing

Since pictures always tell a better story than words, here are impressions of the preproduction model of the game. This is 95% close to what you will be getting in your hands once the games ship out of the harbours.

The thick box, complete with spot UV details
Here you can see the UV details a bit better. We know, the corner of the box is a bit damaged here, but that's because someone dropped the box in his car. Oops :)
This is what you'll see when you open your box after having placed everything where it should be : the four player trays, that have a special little recess for the notepad of "A new beginning"
Let's cake a closer look at the player trays. You will have all your employees arranged neatly in a row, as well as the Project Tabs that cover the other components.
And then, underneath the tabs, you will find your Player disks, VP disk, Action Choice tile, starting goods and money.
After removing the rulebook, you will find the 4 Player Boards, as well as the department board.
Here are the triple-layered Player Boards fanned out, and the beautifully designed Department Board
The next layer contains the Game Board, and you can also see the Timeline tiles appear.
Then, you will find the special Department tray. You can use this instead of the printed Department Board, it's what you prefer.
Here 's the Department tray in more detail. It features a special recess so you can easily push the departments out of their slots when you pick up one.
And at the bottom, you can find the massive First-player marker, Timeline marker, printed Action markers, Donation tiles of the expansion, remaining department tiles, Goods cubes, Banknotes, Solo cards and Player aids.
Here is the Timeline fully assembled, complete with Heat-transfer printed Action markers, the Metal Timeline Marker, and the First-player marker.
Here is the First-player marker next to an Employee for scale.
So this is the iridescent "crystal" effect we spoke of earlier on the Banknotes. We did like it, but think we could do better. So instead of having this crystal-like pattern, the banknotes will have a simple even metal foil finish. once we have decent pictures to share with you, we will do so in a future update.
The attention to detail Gametrayz provided is wonderful, the resource tray features the logo of the game carefully integrated into the lid.
Here, we set up the blue player's Player board with the Tabs. Looks great doesn't it? Now, as you can see in the top rows, the top layer of the player board seemed to recess a bit, which is obviously not what we wanted. The manufacturer is now working on a solution to make sure the top layer will be perfectly straight.

Mass Production begins

So now that we have checked every component, made the necessary changes, got in all translations, it is finally time for mass production to begin this week. We will let you know in a future update when this will come to an end, and the next step will be a crucial one: shipping the games to the different distribution partners, so we can finally start work on the fulfilment process.

We thank you all for your continued support and patience.

Happy gaming!

Production update July
almost 3 years ago – Mon, Jul 12, 2021 at 01:20:35 AM

Dear backers,

We have quite a bit to share with you today. We have been busy with our manufacturer to finalise the preproduction copy, and since pictures say more than a thousand words, let us start by showing you the samples of the different elements of the game. Please note that these pictures were sent to us by the manufacturer, so they're not necessarily the best ones. But until we get the samples ourselves, this allows us to show where we stand.

Paper components.

Here are some images of the cards, punchboards and the "a new beginning" notepad:

Samples of the solo cards and player aids.
Here is the "A New Beginning" notepad! This will add a lot of variety to your game of Carnegie.
Examples of the punchboards. These are from the retail edition, though, but will allow us to judge the quality of the cut, material and colour.
Samples of the punchboards.
And here's a screenshot of the punchboards containing the expansion materials.
And finally, an image of the Department board.

Non-paper components

We now move on to the wooden pieces: the Player discs, VP discs, meeples and action markers:

First of all, we have our cute little Employees.
Here are the Player disks, with their final design!
Here are the heat-transfer-printed Action Markers, as well as the VP markers, but as you can see, these are WAY too big here, and in the wrong shape. The manufacturer promised us to send the right size and shape soon.

GameTrayz Insert

This has been the biggest piece of work the last few months. You see, when the manufacturer starts making samples, we have to make sure we get as many as we can (or ideally, all of them) and ship them over to GameTrayz so that they can make sure all the measurements we gave them are correct, or if there are some elements that somehow very from the original sizes. Even a tenth of a millimetre can create a difference (for instance, for all cardboard elements when stacked). It has resulted in us having to change the size of the Deluxe Kickstarter box no less than THREE times. We are still not 100% sure we are there yet, that will have to be confirmed when we receive every single sample, which we hope to receive soon. More about that later in this update.

This will form the base of the insert. We settled on this subtle beige colour together with Ian, to fit with the box, and showcase the colours of the different elements.
Just a fun little extra, but this is something we thought would be cool to share: this is the mould used to create the insert: you can notice small holes that help pull the plastic down in a vacuum, guaranteeing the correct shape each time one copy is made.
This will be a removable tray that will contain the Money and Resource cubes.
This tray will receive a nice cover to keep everything together and will contain the logo as a neat little touch.
And here is the extra that we talked about in a previous update: on top of the Department Board, the insert will also offer a removable tray that will contain a full set of 32 Department tiles for your convenience. And as a nice touch, the icons of the 4 types of Departments will be engraved in the design.
Here is what it looks like with a full set of Departments from the base game, on top of the base!
Here is the base all filled up, together with the removable Resources tray. You can also see where the Timeline tiles will go, the Department tiles of the expansion, the cards as well as all the resources.
on top of all this, you will stack the player trays, that will contain your Employees, starting Money, Resource cubes, VP marker, Disks, and Action Choice tile. All you need to start the game. Can you guess where everything goes? :)
That will end up looking something like this! The Employees are missing here, but you get the idea.
And to finish off, you will stack your notepad and rulebook on top of it all.

So what is next?

The next stage is the one we have been anxiously waiting for: getting the samples that you see here. We will have to go through a thorough inspection of each piece, making sure everything fits nicely inside the box. Our artist, Ian 'O Toole, will get a set of samples as well, to make sure all the colours look like they should. This is a crucial stage, as this is where we can make the final changes to our product before the mass printing starts.  We will share more images once we get those samples in.

In the meantime, our partners are finishing up work on the rulebooks, so we can have all that ready to print at the same time. We hope to have everything ready for mass printing later this month. That means we are about a month behind on our original schedule, but we hope mass production will make up for that a bit.

Shipping challenges

Our biggest challenge however will be the shipping: as you may have heard, shipping from China is a huge challenge still. Regular Covid outbreaks are paralysing some ports, and freight companies are struggling right now to make us any promises. We still have some time before the production of Carnegie ends, but we are doing all we can to make sure the goods can get shipped once they are ready.

We hope you liked this update, and are enjoying a wonderful summer!

Development update
almost 3 years ago – Wed, Jun 09, 2021 at 01:08:31 AM

Dear backers,

We knows it’s been fairly quiet from our end, but we have been very busy with trying to wrap up everything so production could start on on time. So here’s a well-deserved update:

Ian has finished all of the artwork. There was a lot of tweaking done on the new departments, and the donation tiles. Ian’s also had to finish work on the retail version of the box, and finish polishing the Deluxe box you will be getting, as it’s gotten bigger because of the amount of added materials and the size of the insert. We are now checking and polishing the rulebook of the expansion materials, of which you can see a preview here now:

The factory has created and shipped samples of the punchboards and the wooden and metal components of the game. We will check these samples soon. Gametrayz will also be getting these, to make sure everything fits as it should, since every tenth of a mm counts when designing these complex inserts. We don’t have final visuals to share yet, but we hope to show you more in a future update.

We finished the rules in most languages at this point, and are busy with the last checks. Before sending everything to the printer. Once that is done, we will receive the print proofs so we can check all materials, making sure all looks good, and feels good too, as we will get material samples of all paper components.

And we have another fun bit of news: we have also been busy implementing the Kickstarter extra's (except for the “new beginnings module”) on BGA which will be available soon for the public.

That’s out for now! Once we get samples we will share visuals with you!

Have a great week!

Orders are locked!
about 3 years ago – Thu, Apr 08, 2021 at 11:24:56 PM

Dear backers,

We have closed all pledge orders and pre-orders on BackerKit. They will effectively close in 48 hours, meaning that if you want to make some final changes to your pledge, it's now or never. After those 48 hours, you won't be able to change anything except your shipping address. The latter is important to notice, you will be able to change your shipping address until about a month before we ship out boxes. No stress there.

For those people that forgot to complete their order, please do it sooner than later. If you are experiencing any issues, please send us a message through our contact form.

Development update

We are happy to announce that all development on the extra content (double-sided project tabs, new donation tiles, "A new beginning" expansion, and all 16 new departments) is finished. Ian O'Toole is hard at work now to finish all graphics on this. Once we receive the new artwork, we will be sharing these progressively with you.

Have a great end of your week!
