Hello dear backers,

Have been busy since the end of the campaign to work on the added content. Xavier has been hard at work to fine-tune all the new departments, and we will be busy playtesting all this in the coming weeks. We are also preparing the pledge manager that should go live next week.

Take a look …

If you like Ian's O'Toole's illustrations, and heavy board games, you might also be interested in this campaign run by AVStudiogames for the game Clinic Deluxe Edition and its expansions. In this 3D board game, you will build the clinic of your dreams, hire doctors, nurses, and other staff in order to treat the most patients and gain the most popularity. The game is for 1–4 players and lasts 40 minutes per player. Clinic Deluxe Edition now has 3 Extension boxes, containing a truly unbelievable number of expansions! A Campaign Book is being offered during the KS campaign to help you play through the myriad expansions. Have a great week everyone, and until the next update!

Quined games.

What an absolutely incredible campaign this has been.
about 3 years ago – Tue, Feb 09, 2021 at 09:36:56 PM

Dear backers,

We cannot believe how quickly we made the final stretch goal, and how many of you joined us on this incredible journey !  We cannot thank all 6023 of you enough (and all the group pledge supporters) for your support, enthusiasm, comments, love and all that good stuff that makes the board gaming community so wonderful and unique.

We never thought we would make it this far.  And are VERY excited to make Carnegie deluxe a reality now, in a much more luxurious version than we could have ever hoped to make. From Xavier Georges, Ian O'Toole and everyone here at Quined games, thank you ever SO MUCH for believing in this project and choosing Carnegie as your next tabletop adventure. You guys are amazing.

What's next?

We will have the pledge manager up and running by March 1st, maybe a bit sooner, once we will have collected all your pledges. The pledge manager will allow you to add the metal Goods Cubes add-on, as well as some select Quined Games.

In the meantime, Xavier is working hard to finish work on all the extra departments,  tweaking the current rules, the new donation tiles, Projects Tabs and "a new beginning" mini-expansion.  We are thinking of organizing a closed alpha of all these new materials on Board Game Arena in March,  but we will give out more details if this proves feasible in time.

And on the horizon …

We are also happy to announce that we will launch a new campaign in Q4 2021 for the reprint of the Carson City : Big Box! This new version will also include a solo mode, as well as some new KS exclusives for both new Cowboys as returning ones.  We are very excited to bring this masterpiece by Carnegie designer Xavier Georges back to Kickstarter. But first: all hands on deck to make Carnegie a reality and deliver it to your doorstep this year.

Final days, and final stretch goals. We are going metal.
about 3 years ago – Thu, Feb 04, 2021 at 10:40:49 PM

Dear backers,

Welcome to all who have joined us this week, thanks to your efforts and the hundreds (what are we saying, thousands!) of others we have smashed through our latest series of stretch goals. You unlocked the deluxe money tokens, so we all know a lot of you anxiously await what we have prepared for the home stretch. Well, we have debated long and hard as to what we could add to make this edition truly deluxe and special, so we hope you will like the final stretch goals. We want to thank each and every one of you who came up with ideas and suggestions. We couldn't implement them all, of course, but it certainly did help bring some stretch goals come to life.

Final Stretch Goals

For the home run, we will start with a fully metal version of the timeline marker at 370K. It will give a nice heft to it, and can you already imagine how cool this will look?

Next, and this is quite special, since we would hit the magical 400K mark, is a brand new mini-expansion tentatively titled (try saying that 3x quickly) "A New Beginning".  This will spice up the beginning of every game of Carnegie. The idea is similar to what Xavier had designed for Carson City: all players will get a set budget and each player what they start the game with.  We will disclose more as Xavier puts the final touches on this, but the idea is that instead of starting with a set number of dollars, employees, and goods cubes, each player will have to budget how they want to start the game. Even choosing the start player won't be randomized anymore. This will add a whole new level of decision-making to the game.

And then... to finish it off, we will upgrade the start player marker to a fully fledged metal locomotive. The design is not final, but it gives a good idea of how it could look.  If we make this, having this KS exclusive special piece seemed  to us like a fitting ending to this incredible campaign. It's a high mark, but we are confident we can make this 🚂🚂🚂🚂.  (*)

(*) The design of this metal start player marker is based on the historical Rollecate locomotive. To learn more about the Rollecate and obtain a limited edition, handcrafted pewter (white metal) miniature of it, please visit this Rollecate Kickstarter campaign. Please note that there will be differences in weight and appearance between our metal model and the pewter miniature.

One more thing …

So, this is not all... on top of having these kick-ass stretch goals, an oft-requested upgrade has been metal goods cubes. Producing a set of 40 cubes though has proven to be very expensive, so that's why are adding this as an add-on. You'll be able to add this when the pledge manager goes live, and pimping your game with these gorgeous looking metal cubes will set you back a mere €12. We hope that this will please the many people who requested this! If you want to pre-pay these, you can always add €12 to your pledge, that will also help get those stretch goals 😉. By the way, as a disclaimer: the final product will be less shiny than the render we are showing! We will make sure you get a nice,  soft finish on these. We want some bling, but we do not want a  gangster version of the game.

Have a great rest of the week, we can't wait to see where we are going to end!

VP Markers unlocked, New Stretch Goals and some spelling & pronunciation for you!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Jan 31, 2021 at 02:28:38 AM

Dear backers,

it's been another exciting week, and as we approach our final week, there are quite a few things we want to share with you. Let's dive into it.

What's been unlocked

We have unlocked all stretch goals from our previous update! To recap: we will have a very special Wax seal printing on the cover, A set of 30 Premium Card sleeves, Custom silk-screened VP Markers,  and a little expansion in the form of Custom Donation Tiles.  We are looking into having the VP markers  silkscreened on BOTH sides: one with the player patterns, and one with the number "100" so you can fill the token if you manage to score more than 100 victory points. Thanks so much for all your support,  we are thrilled to be adding all these to your copy of Carnegie deluxe. But you're certainly asking: what's next? Well …

New Stretch Goals

We have prepared quite few new stretch goals. As always, we have discussed these with Xavier, and we think you will be excited about these new additions:

At 300K, we have one much-asked upgrade of the Player boards from double-layered to triple-layered.  we discussed this with our manufacturer and we will add a third, solid but thin layer at the bottom of the player boards to seal seal these off, so that the Project Tabs are fully protected and won't chafe over your table as you slide them in and out of their recesses when you play. We will make sure that this added layer is not too thick as to avoid the tabs tilting too much when slid out.

Next, at 320K, we will add another oft-asked upgrade of the Project tabs. Xavier is working on all new tab bonuses, that will be printed on the back of each tab. So you will have double-sided Project tabs, offering you even more variability in gameplay.

And if we reach 340K, we will upgrade all the money tokens in the game; We will print them at a 30% bigger scale, on extra thick 3 mm cardboard and with a subtle metal ink finish that will make the money in the game really deluxe.

Timing

One issue we do want to share with you, as we want to keep everything we do very transparent: when we started this campaign, we hoped it would be a big success, but we never in our wildest dreams it would go SO well. Even though Quined has been around for nearly 15 years,  we are a very small company, and it's not always easy for us to predict how well a campaign can go. We have ended up adding not only a lot of material upgrades to the game, but a LOT of content too. 16 new departments,  4 Donation tiles, and pretty soon (we hope) the double-sided project tabs.  All this thanks to your enthusiasm and ideas. But all this extra content does mean we have quite a bit of testing to do. We really want to make sure that all these extras are truly worthy additions to this game. You deserve nothing less. Realistically, it does mean we will need a few more months of playtesting  to make sure all these elements are balanced, and work well together. Therefore, we have adapted our timeline that now looks like this:

We hope you will understand this decision, as we want to make sure we offer Xavier and our playtesters ample time to fine-tune everything.

A bigger board

We did notice that we shared the wrong size for the game board on the KS page: it will actually be BIGGER than we had originally mentioned. The board will measure 648x502mm/25.5x19.8 inches,  and not 560x480mm/22x18.9 inches as previously mentioned.  But speaking of the board …

To Pittsburgh or not to Pittsburg, and how to pronounce Carnegie

There has been multiple discussions online about the spelling of the city of Pittsburgh on the map. The spelling without the H was based on an old map. Without doing a solid historic background study we assumed that the name of the town in the age of Carnegie was spelled this way. Thanks to our beloved backers we understand it better now and Ian already changed the spelling. So, we want to assure everyone that Pittsburgh will have it's "H" on the map!

Also, one BGG user shared this wonderful bit of knowledge: "We gotta get the pronunciation of Carnegie right though - it's car-NAY-gie, not CAR-nih-gie." So there you go.

Chinese Review by Mr. Box

We have a fun review of Carnegie to share with all our Chinese speaking backers, you can check out the video by Mr. Box by clicking on this image:

That's it for now … have a great weekend, everyone!

Unlocked stretch goals and retail vs. deluxe
over 3 years ago – Wed, Jan 27, 2021 at 01:49:59 AM

Dear backers,

You've done it! You managed to unlock the deluxe game board and the final 4 extra Department tiles . This means that thanks to your enthusiasm and support, we will effectively double the amount of Department Tiles present in the game!

Next up, we have the special seal print on the box and card sleeves coming up, we feel confident we will make those goals fairly soon as well.  And of course, there is still the …

Social Stretch Goal

You have been quite busy on our social media we have seen, and we are getting closer to unlocking the Custom VP markers. At this time of writing, we need about 100 more Facebook followers, 250 Instagram followers and 130 BoardGameGeek fans to reach our goal. Go on and give us a follow if you haven't already :)

New Reviews

We have added a new Dutch review by Spellenbunker and a Spanish Playthrough video and analysis by Análisis-Parálisis in the "Reviews" section of the page, make sure to check it out.

Differences between the Deluxe and future retail versions of the game

We want to explain the differences between the Kickstarter Deluxe Collector's Edition (KE) and the regular edition (RE) of the game, since we have been getting some questions about this.

Apart from some obvious differences, like the bigger and thicker box, Department, board, Game TRayz insert, thicker board, special print, … a main difference is that the 32 extra Department tiles will be included in this version, but will not be included in the retail edition. The same goes for the Donation tiles if we manage to unlock these. Instead, these will be sold separately as an expansion.

Another very important difference between the different editions is that the KE will be the one and only  Quined Masterprint edition. Unlike all other years, Quined Games is NOT planning to print a retail version of Carnegie after the campaign. Please take good note of this. This means that if you wish to procure the Masterprint version of the game, this campaign is your one chance. Our partners will be the ones publishing the regular edition of the game at the end of the year, which will feature a box with different sides and back, will not have the Kickstarter exclusives and will not have the extra Department and Donation tiles in the box. Right now,  we are  still negotiating with some companies for a possible retail version of Carnegie in some 'important' languages like English and German, but nothing is set yet. Only the languages mentioned in the "Partners" section (with Polish as an exemption) are sure to see the light of day.

We hope this makes thing clear. If you have any questions, please tell us or send us a pm.  Quined is a very small company, and we are trying our best to make the KS campaign and the game a big success! So far, your support has been nothing short than but amazing, and we couldn't be more humbled and grateful with this.
